I just found out that I am I super taster! A couple years ago there was this cream thing that I was slightly allergic to but didnāt have much taste. About a month later, I ate some cookies and I asked my mom if that cream was in it and she said an ingredient in that cookie was an ingredient in that cream.
Another story was a couple months age when my sister made us eggs and everyone ate them and as soon as I tasted them I knew that it had no salt.
Also my mom always says that I taste things rly well.

So being a super taster isnāt actually about having a ābetter sense of tasteā but specifically is what people are called when they have a gene to be able to perceive a specific bitter chemical compound known as PROP. Just so youāre aware! š

interesting to find out about the science behind supertasters! probably not one since chocolate tastes normal, though there is more sciencey stuff behind why there are people who taste the bitter in coffee and most wines (it’s got to do with the tannins). thanks for your sharing today!

I am a super taster. My dentist discovered it about 25 years ago. Iām currently 63. It makes life so difficult as far as āeating the rainbowā when it comes to vegetables. I taste horrendous bitterness in so many vegetables, no matter how they are cooked. I was deemed a picky eater growing up and my parents couldnāt understand why I didnāt like the same foods they did. Super tasters tend to have a sweet tooth as well. I found adding some cinnamon to coffee grounds before brewing reduces the bitter taste. Of course I still have to add my stevia and my half & half. Also, adding a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt to your coffee cuts the acid as well. Unlike you, I love chocolate , except white chocolate, and nothing over 72%. Wow, nice to finally meet a fellow super taster. I had to explain it to my doctor who had no idea what a super taster was and who kind of gave me a look like they didnāt believe me. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great videos!

Thereās a possibility that itās a sensory issue, not necessarily your tastebuds. I have problems with foods that have strong flavors (like bell peppers). I love the way they taste, but biting into a piece overwhelms my tastebuds and puts me in overload. I add them to my food for the flavor but I canāt actually eat them. If you have some other issues with your senses (like light, sound, food textures) itās probably more related to your nervous system and brain than tastebuds. If not, there are varying degrees of labels for tastebuds. Thereās also people who canāt taste things, and thereās people in the middle. We donāt all have the same amount, nor are they in the same place. Depends on your genetics.

I might be a mild super taster, I’ve always really hated bitter things like grapefruit and coffee but as I’m getting older I’m learning ways to make them more palatable and enjoy different “acquired tastes”. Never had any issue with chocolate other than just bad quality chocolate, and I’m a beast about alcohol so it doesnt bother me even though it tastes like pure hand sanitizer.

Iāve learned to appreciate chocolate, red wine, and some of the bitter vegetables, but it depends on the other flavors around the bitter.

Also, I cringed at your initial list: chocolate milk, Oreos, a domestic chocolate bar. Chocolate milk and Oreos both use ādutchedā cocoa (treated with alkali, which preserves it and makes it dissolve better) which ranges from bitter to dry-up-your-mouth bitter (Oreos). Hersheys has an ingredient that tastes like vomit t people not raised on it. Red wine has tannins, and any wine can oxidize and turn bitter when air hits it long enough.

I’m a super taster and I love chocolate. I also taste soap when I eat cilantro. But the thing is, for me that’s just how cilantro tastes so I am used to it – I even like Mexican style food that incorporates a lot of cilantro. My brother is also a supertaster and he can’t eat food with cilantro on it at all. Being a supertaster just means we pick up on bitterness more than others, it doesn’t define what foods we like or dislike! And I’ve definitely met a lot of folks who HATE dark chocolate but like milk chocolate because it’s less bitter. You’re not the only one, just a more extreme case than most I think!

I feel you! Some foods look and smell so good but if i try to eat them i will literally throw up, im not a massive fan of chocolate but i can i eat it. Im a vegetarian now, but back in the day i could tell which shop chicken was bought from in one bite, the different shops obviously used different suppliers and to me it was all too obvious by the taste. There are many other examples where ive tried something and said no i dont like it, it has such and such in it, and people argued that it didnt have said ingredient in it until i go through the ingredient list and im always proven right (this happens a lot with garlic and onion powder)

Whether or not youāre a āsuper tasterā depends on whether you have the gene to be able to perceive bitter compounds found in different foods! Specifically, people with this gene are much more sensitive to the chemical compound known as PROP (propylthiouracil).
Therefore, non-tasters such as myself are not as sensitive to the bitter compounds and so their presence isnāt significant. {Bonus: in food for non-tasters you can often find a liking to more salt or more bold flavors. }

My mom actually do not like chocolate, her coffee usually is a half of decaf coffee with 2 spoons of sugar.
