If you've ever lost your period or missed your period (and not because you got pregnant) – we need to talk. This is DANGEROUS. Nobody talks about amenorrhea. This is a SERIOUS health issue when menstruation is absent during a female's reproductive years, between puberty and menopause.
Why does it happen? It's due to an imbalance of hormones. And oftentimes this can happen from a combination of overexercising and under eating…which unknowingly, I have done multiple times in my life.
In this video I will teach you what amenorrhea is, what causes it, and how you can cure it. The good news is…it IS curable!

You’re an amazing person for speaking on things like this
I lost my period too for nine months in high school when I was doing varsity track, softball, taekwondo and weightlifting.
THIS TITLE! I literally gasped when I saw it. Yes Cassie! Im looovvinngg the diff content❤️
My period was gone for almost a year because of my obesity and pcos. I’ve never had a regular period my entire life. Only in my 30s I really understood how important my period was.
Same, have probably only had a regular period for 3 consecutive months twice since I started my period at 12. I’m now 40. It’s so important to understand one’s cycle!
I lost my period for 2 years because of pcos… sometimes it seems to be under control but lately with the pandemic, I’ve been having my period for a month straight😭
@Nicole Colvett this happened to me!! I didn’t have my period for 3-4 years and then had it for a whole month! Please go see a gyno!! I was diagnosed with PCOS and it’s very dangerous to not have a period! Wishing you the best ❤
The same happened to me. I was very very overweight/obese and lost my period for 2 years. It had been like clock work before then. Obesity is just as detrimental as undereating is. Proper diet and exercise is critical to health!!!
Hey 🙂 I’ve really improved my period after being on the contraceptive implant (it caused ovarian cysts, mood swings and hair loss so I don’t recommend). I really re-regulated my hormones afterwards with fenugreek supplements and shatavari supplements. I also used to get migraines on my period and that improved with shatavari for sure.
I’ve not had it for almost two years due to under eating. Please please never trust these diets that are less than 1500. I actually found out I need to eat more than 2000. Listen to your body
we cannot listen to your bodies, it won´t give us the right signals >>> I´ve been a vegetarian for about 23 years, even avoid fats and ended up as a nutricient depleated skinny pre-diabetic.
2,000 is pretty average. Even eating 1,600-1,700 is too low for me.
@V King same lmao, I start to feel ill and light headed if I eat under 2000
@x x you literally need fats. Listen to your body but also apply common sense. Fat is a normal and necessary, especially if you were assigned female at birth. I’m really sorry you ended up pre-diabetic
Knowing your RMR (resting metabolic rate) helps a lot
I too used to undereat for years because I was under the impression I was fat since childhood due to my nicknames revolving around being fat/chubby/lazy.
Little gordita is the one I recall being used most. Also, idk how to spell it but “lazy girl” in spanish was used a lot as well. Keep in mind, I made almost all the meals, helped my younger half siblings with everything and was expected to do all of that plus more if asked, so I was anything but lazy.
Anyway, my point being, don’t just cut calories when you don’t know how much your body uses on average just to keep it running as is. You can do more harm than good as a result, especially for biological females.
So glad you’re talking about this Cassey!! Such an important subject that people hardly talk about.
It’s great that you’re sitting down and talking about an important topic like this. Never lost my period from exercising but I’ve had chronic unpredictable periods my entire life and looking back it was probably due to stress. Much love to those still struggling with this.
In high school, I remember many of us thought it was a good thing (or convenient) to lose your period or only get it once every three months from exercising. I remember even thinking that it was healthy!
Thank you for speaking on this!
I lost my period when I was deep in my ED. The day I got my period back was honestly one of the best days and I was so so happpy!!!
Congrats on your recovery!!!
me too, and it comes back with a vengeance 😅
Periods are SO important. I’d rather have my period than a 6 pack. Periods are our biological health report each month. We are in SURVIVAL MODE if we are not ovulating. It may feel like a “blessing” but it can cause (perhaps not straight away) hair loss, acne and an imbalance of hormones (progesterone is only released with ovulation) which potentially leads to LOTS of problems. Trust me I have PCOS (so in MY experience I don’t ovulate regularly) and it’s bad…
Yes
Yeah I agree it very dangerous not to have a period. I wonder why there’s a birth control that stops your period? When it first came out I was like wtf that’s dangerous. It’s crazy just because something is available it doesn’t mean it good for you. I actually don’t believe in birth control either but that’s a different topic lol
@Kristen Dunn Not having a period due to undereating, over exercising or other health issues is dangerous but birth control isn’t the same. Not all hormonal birth control stops your period but for example the mini pill (progestogen-only pill) often does. I took it for years and I’ve had no issues, even though I didn’t have much of a period for that time. My doctor confirmed that it’s absolutely fine, there’s no actual health benefits to having a period if you’re otherwise healthy (meaning that it hasn’t stopped because of undereating etc). It’s a weird myth that periods ‘cleanse the body’ or create some kind of a backlog if you don’t have one. For some, periods can worsen mental health issues or some people’s periods are so debilitating that having the option to stop them completely can massively improve their lives.
@Safiiritar All BIRTH control pills stop ovulation… meaning no period. It is also possible to have a period without ovulation occurring – that is called an anovulatory cycle which results in a bleed.
Debilitating periods may be common but they are not normal, there is an issue there. Heavy periods normally indicate estrogen dominance.
The pill can also cause PCOS – search post-pill PCOS. Birth control CAN (possibility) cause androgens to rise which results in hair loss.
Periods release progesterone which have many benefits. Nothing to do with “cleansing.”
Doctor’s are also the ones saying going on the pill cures PCOS… nope it just stops the cycle. It is often easier than curing the underlying problem. But this is a separate topic. There’s the research out there.
To say synthetically shutting down our body’s number 1 priority after survival isn’t going to POSSIBLY have side-effects is not feasible
@Safiiritar Yeah I agree it can be treatment for terrible periods but it’s not being offered as such but as an option for all women even those with a regular period. That’s the only reason I can see benefits out ways the risk. If you have a normal period you shouldn’t try to avoid getting it. Doctors will tell you there’s no risk but there’s always a risk involved anytime you take any type of medication or anything that’s going to alter your hormones.

@Natalie Victorson ok, thank you so much!! and yes, I love resistance training, I do incorporate that into my training, thanks
@BORNWINNER you’re a smart girl! Recovery is a marathon not a sprint so be patient and keep listening to your body. Best wishes to you and good luck in skating 🤗
@Natalie Victorson thank you so much, that is so true! God bless you!
also, what exactly would be an example of energy dense foods???
@BORNWINNER try incorporating whole grains like oats and rice, healthy fats like nuts, nut butters, trail mix, avocados, and make sure you’re also getting enough protein! Basically, you can try eating food that is more caloric (energy dense) so don’t be afraid of healthy fats. Start increasing your intake by around 20% and also consider vitamin D and calcium supplements. Hope that helps.
@Natalie Victorson ok, thanks! I actually eat those things already, like, I eat a lotttt of nuts and avocado all the time because I loveee nuts and avocado is so good!! and I eat rice since I live in an asian family 😂 and my parents always make sure I get enough protein, so idk if it’s just because of my diet that this is happening…
Wow that was really super encouraging to let people especially females feel more secure about their health rather than lose it just because of a body shape.
Being in a good health is a great blessing that we should be thankful for every single moment 🌸
Yep, can relate. Lost my period for a year and a half. It added to everything I was going through, because I was very young and I thought it was never coming back (I know, it makes no sense, but atm it was so frustrating and I wasn’t really ok).
I lost my period when I was 13 due to suffering from an eating disorder. When I got it back after 6 months it was one of the first signs I was healthy again. Thank you for speaking on this important topic 🙂
*laughs in pcos*
But in all seriousness, women’s health is horrendously disregarded and not properly understood, so thank you for using your platform to normalize talking about it.
I lost my period about 3 years ago, when I was so obsessed with dieting, food, and workouts, that I nearly killed myself. I got into a hospital weighing only 45 kilos at that time, and I was on a verge of death. And then one day I realized… wait, if you die now, you will not be able to live your life, and girl, you got your whole life ahead of you, you will not be able to see your friends and family, talk to them, hug them, anything. It took me a long time to recover, but eventually, I did. I am still eating healthy now, I work out, but not because I have to, but because I love and enjoy it, and it makes me happy. I now weigh about 67 kilos, but I could not be happier. So, if you are reading this, and you are going through the same phase or problem in your life, keep going. Because it is damn worth it in the end. It is all in your head, you can do it. Love you guys
congrats for getting over it!! but how tall were u bc I weigh 46 kg and I don’t even look that slim I’m 5’5
@Hira Rehan I am 5´5 as well. but I looked extremely skinny, like.. it was unreal.
@Nataša Bučeková oh ok thanks yeah I get u, ig we all carry weight differently and besides i still weigh more than u did so it makes sense but I’m glad you’re healthier now
@Hira Rehan thank you ❤️ It means a lot. Lots of love ❤️
@Hira Rehan I’m 5’7″ and weigh 54kg=119lb and according to BMI I’m 1kg underweight, but I feel okay. I think as soon as I’m away from home more often when corona ends, I’ll gain 2kg because 56kg=123.5lb was my weight before corona, and traveling a lot takes more energy, so I’ll have more appetite.
Well, what I wanted to say is that most people at my height would be way too skinny, but my bone shape (the circumference of my rip cage for example) is pretty slender. Before I was 15, my bone shape was even more slender, and I kinda looked like slenderman ngl. Now the proportions look correct, but I’m still slim, so I naturally weigh less than people with more normal proportions. (By the way, my petite bone structure makes it harder for me to be taken seriously by guys, so I wish my bone shape was a bit less slender -.-)
Some girls I know who aren’t much taller than me (maybe 5’8″) are so thin and weigh 60kg=132lb, while I was starting to look a tiny bit chubby the one time in my life when I weighed 60kg.
What I want to show with this is that people shouldn’t compare their weights so much because everyone has a different bone structure, so everyone has a different ideal weight, even at the same height!
Actually when I was 14 ,I went through the hardest moments in my life. My parents divorced, I had the most important exams in my life, I lost friends and many more. At that time I started feeling uncomfortable in my body I was like ” I should eat less so I can be skinny like the models” I started working out every day without eating much, I was stressed and then I lost my period. I was teen that didn’t know how to express their feelings and emotions and I didn’t tell anyone. Then I found Cassey, she helped me with many things. So Cassey if you are reading this, thank u so much for coming in my live. I love u 💓
👊💟
I hope your fine now :>
I only lost my period once because I was doing the Paleo diet. I knew immediately that it was the diet because that was the only that I changed. Also felt terrible during the week of no carbs. I was tired and irritable all the time. I added carbs back to my diet but my period didn’t come back until 60 days later.
i havent missed periods due to eating, but stress from school in lockdown has recently made me miss a couple periods at a time.
me too.. i think stress is really the biggest reason even
LOVE this conversation!!!! so so so important 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
